I am not a big cook. That is to say, basically I never cook. When I am at home and eating alone I usually just eat something quick at a local chain restaurant or sometimes even a sandwhich at Starbucks. Lately however I have gotten hooked on using Sherpa’s. Sherpa’s is a delivery service in Shanghai. You can order off a basic menu from a lot of restaurant and then a guy on a bike from Sherpa’s delivers it to my door. It is easy to use because you can make an order by phone or, as I do, use Skype or MSN Messenger. After they take your order the food arrives usually in about 30 to 45 minutes. That’s the good part. The bad part is that it is actually relatively expensive. Dinner tonight is about RMB 150. That’s about US $20. Not bad for a real meal delivered to your door, unless you are someone who lives in China and realizes just how expensive that is compared to just eating at some local restaurant. I think it would be quite easy for a “local” to find a decent meal for around RMB 20 (US $2.50). But I’m a bit lazy and always can use the excuse that “if you convert that to dollars it’s only…”
I’m hungry…I hope Sherpa’s gets here soon!
