Sanya Beach Walk

I took a walk along the beach here just before sunset. The beach area was probably fronted by a bunch of shacks and small hotels just a few years ago. Now it has a number of high rises and condos. In between you still can see it is an area under development. A number of small buildings are under construction or look to have been under construction at some point recently before work being stopped. My hotel is still quite nice. Here is a picture of it just after the sun went down.

The areas reminds me a little bit of Koh Samui in Thailand went I visited there over 10 years ago. This area is already far more developed than Koh Samui was at that time, but still you can see, just as was evident in Koh Samui, evidence of an area under transition from a sleepy beach resort community to an international vacation destination.

From chilly Beijing I have flown down to hot Sanya today. It is about 30C here. Unfortunately I am here primarily for business so I won’t be spending my days in the sun, but still it is a nice change of scenery. Most of the people here are Chinese of course, but this also seems to be a very popular place for Russian tourists. I guess it is a good value for them.

Here’s the view from my room.
