Fortune put out its list of most admired companies in the US.
GE was once again at the top of their list. I actually thought it was interesting that Toyota, despite being a Japanese company, was able to make it to number 4 on this list. I guess it is a testament to the significance of their operations in the US and the popularity of their products.
I’ve been an employee of a relatively well respected Japanese company (not Toyota) for a number of years. I suppose it is hard to really know what separates a company like GE or Toyota from the rest of the pack without being on the inside. I suppose it is that they are able to continue to make significant returns for shareholders without losing focus on “basics” like customer and employee satisfaction. Sounds simple but it can be so difficult.
