As part of an application I am in the process of making, I had to submit a copy of my university transcript. It has been a long time since I’ve had a look at all the courses I took at WFU. WFU is ranked no. 30 among national universities in the 2007 US News & World Report rankings and has a reputation for being an very academically challenging college. Or at least that it was I tell everyone to explain my less than golden grades. In total I suppose I was an average student. I think I spent too much time riding and racing bicycles. Also rarely being motivated to stay up to all hours studying before tests didn’t help either. But in the end I would say I had a positive experience and I certainly can’t complain about how I’ve done in life since that time. I guess not doing well on a few tests was all part of having a meaningful college experience, though I suppose my parents might not have agreed at the time.
Certainly having the opportunity to study Japanese and study abroad at Tokai University in Japan had an impact on my life. I’ve spent my entire life after university either living in Japan and/or working for a Japanese company.
Justin, I don’t think cycling took too much of your time. I remember dropping by your room on more than one occasion to find you feeding your addiction to The Weather Channel or CNN when we both should have been studying. But, as you note in your entry, in the end we turned out okay and are productive members of society. Cheers!
