Between going through some news sites on the internet and listening to CNN on TV I was thinking about the associations I make between different stories and myself. The stories or topics I find most interesting are usually linked to the different places I have lived.

Here are some examples of the headlines I was thinking about today.

Candidates for president in France have published a total of 38 books.

  • I lived in Paris (France) for two years. Great city. Great time. Great that politicians (or at least their staff) write lots of books. Books are good.

China’s premier Wen Jiabao will visit Japan, the first time for a premier in 7 years.

  • I lived in Japan and now live in China. Both countries have had (and are having) an important impact on my life many, many ways.

China objects to U.S. plans to file complaints with WTO

  • I am involved in business in China and the U.S. is my home country. Who wouldn’t object to having a claim failed against them?

Huge protest in Iraq demands US withdraw

  • I am an American and what is going on in Iraq bothers me. I don’t say who is to blame, I just feel it is sad that we cannot find a lasting peace years after the 2003 invasion.
